John Payne EN2(SS) Obituary

Entered into Eternal Patrol on 12/28/2022.

Served Aboard Segundo 1968-1970

John Holland Payne passed from this life on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at the age of 78. John was born December 17, 1944, in Lakehurst, NJ to Holland Ivan Payne and Vida Maple Nutting. He was a distinguished member of the United States Navy, where he served his country in the Vietnam Era. After graduating with a Master’s Degree, John followed his dream of becoming a mechanical engineer, where he went on to work in the defense and aircraft industry. His passion for engineering rolled over from his work to his leisure time, as he loved working on old cars, especially Volkswagens. Because he took pride in being a part of a community of others like himself, he spent his later years as a member of Toastmasters, Submarine Sailor Club, and of the Masonic Phoenix Lodge 275. John had a love for Christ and made sure that he could attend church as often as possible. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his family, whom he loved very much.
John is preceded in death by his parents. Left to carry on John’s memory are his wife, Linda Sue Payne of Weatherford, TX; son, Michael Payne and wife Daria of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Kathlyn Luliak and husband Todd of Piedmont, OK; son, John Payne and wife Heather of Waxahachie, TX; brother, Steve Payne and wife Sandy of Hattiesburg, MS; brother, Dr. Karl Payne and wife Gail of Sammamish, WA; brother, Dr. Keith Payne and wife Beth of Fairfax Station, VA; grandchildren, Kellon Payne, Lynae Payne, John Payne, Elizabeth Payne; and great-grandson, Teagan Payne.

Sailor, Rest your oar, we have the watch.
